Marco Rubio announced Tuesday, August 18, that the United States is sanctioning two members of the International Criminal Court and several staff members. The list includes Japanese President Tomoko Akane and prosecutor Abdoulaye Seye, according to The Guardian US and Deutsche Welle.
The court condemned the action. Deutsche Welle reported the tribunal's statement that the sanctions undermine the rule of law. NDTV noted that Washington has accused the court of being politicized.
The targeted court is under investigation regarding Israel, The Guardian US reported.
