Kim Responded to U.S. Overture, Trump Says; South Korea Hopes for Summit
Verified
President Donald Trump said August 17 that Kim Jong-un has responded to a United States overture for dialogue. The State Department followed by declaring openness to unconditional talks with Pyongyang.
South Korea's Unification Ministry expressed hope for a summit between Trump and Kim to advance peace and inter-Korean reconciliation, Yonhap reported.
Separately, Yonhap reported the United States plans to substantially reduce joint military exercises with South Korea. The shift was noted alongside Pyongyang's ongoing characterization of the drills as war rehearsals.
